Kirkton Wind Farm (Wind2) Sponsors Successful 2024 Melvich Novice Dog Trials

On 26th October 2024, the annual Melvich Novice Dog Trials took place on Kirkton Farm, with Wind2, through Kirkton Wind Farm Ltd, as the main sponsor. The trials drew 17 dogs competing in a series of challenging tasks that tested their herding abilities.

Wind2 believes in supporting local organisations, and as a company that engages with crofters and farmers, we were delighted to accept the invitation to be the main sponsor. "Training working dogs takes a huge amount of skill, time, and investment," said Fraser Makenzie, Development Director (Wind) at Wind2. "Farms and crofters rely on their sheepdogs to herd their livestock, and events like the Melvich Dog Trials not only showcase the incredible bond between handlers and their dogs, but also inspire younger generations to carry on this important tradition."

The winner of the competition for the second year in a row was Buzz, handled by Daniel Worthington from Scarfskerry, with an impressive score of 96 points. Second place went to Bob, handled by Ian Sutherland, and Benji, handled by Neil Sutherland, both from Strathnaver.

"As a business, we are passionate about delivering tangible community benefits," Fraser continued. "Being given the opportunity to sponsor the Melvich Dog Trials was a great honour, and we were proud to support this event."

The crofting and farming community is known for its strong support network, and events like the Melvich Dog Trials provide a fantastic opportunity to not only showcase their working dogs but also socialise and connect.
