Wind2 and Art Connection Scoop the Arts, Business and the Environment Award

Wind2 and Art Connection are proud to announce that they have won the Arts, Business and Environment Award at the Arts and Business Awards 2024.

The ceremony, held at the ICC, Newport, Wales, on July 4th, celebrated a range of businesses, community groups, charities, and individuals. For nearly three decades, these awards have recognised excellence in partnership work between the arts and businesses. At Wind2, we are proud members of Arts and Business Cymru and staunch supporters of the arts.

The Arts, Business and the Environment Award was given for our primary school engagement programme which also extended to the Royal Welsh Agricultural Show. Through Arts Connection, Wind2 commissioned artists to visit classes at two schools, educating primary school children on the benefits of renewable energy in an engaging and enjoyable way.

As the UK transitions to renewable electricity, ensuring energy security, it is crucial to engage with all age groups to educate them on the benefits of wind and solar power. The classes created their own turbines, demonstrating how wind power can be harnessed to generate clean electricity. Geraint Edwards, one of the artists involved, also joined the Wind2 team at their stand at the 2023 Royal Welsh Agricultural Show. Here, both children and adults were encouraged to create their own wind turbines and learn more about Wind2 and renewable energy.

Sarah Smith, Managing Director of Wind2, stated, “I am delighted that, along with Arts Connection, we’ve been recognised for the project. Engaging with people creatively to educate them about renewable energy helps to reinforce its benefits to local communities, the environment, and the UK's energy security. With increased global volatility, the climate crisis, and the cost of living, renewable energy, a fundamental part of the new Labour Government’s GB Energy plans, must be the future for the UK, and we are proud to be at the forefront.”

Wind2 and its sister company, Solar2, are committed to delivering renewable energy projects. It is important that, as a business, the use creative of solutions is employed to educate people across generations so they can fully understand the benefits to them, the UK, and the environment.
